Ravi Kumar wins silver, Sushant bags bronze

Two lifters from Odisha won medals in the 66th Men and 29th Women Senior National Weightlifting Championships, held at the District Sports Complex in Nagpur from March 28 to April 1. Commonwealth Games gold medallist K Ravi Kumar made a modest return to competitive lifting by winning silver, while his Berhampur citymate Sushant Sahu claimed bronze.

Competing in a higher weight category, Ravi Kumar was pushed to second place by S Sathish Kumar of Railways in men`s 77kg category. An employee of Indian Army, Ravi Kumar, who was taking part in the Senior Nationals after a long injury lay-off, had to be content with three silver medals with efforts of 141kg in snatch, 175kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 316kg. He had won gold in the 69kg category in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Sushant, who was competing in the 62-kg category, secured overall bronze with a total lift of 257kg, which included 113kg in snatch and 144kg in clean & jerk. But there were conflicting reports regarding medals won by Sushant in snatch and clean & jerk.

Rustam Sarang (115 kg in the snatch and 146 kg in the clean and jerk) amassed a 261-kg total to bag yellow metal, pipping Swapnil Ghagre (Services, 260 kgs) and Sushant in the 62kg weight class.
